What is Milehound™

A dog gym that drives to you.

Milehound™ is a mobile dog gym. Our van carries two professional dog treadmills inside an air conditioned cabin. A trained handler greets your dog at your front door, runs a supervised 25 minute session at your curb, and returns a happy, genuinely tired dog. The treadmills are self-paced, so your dog chooses the speed: a hard trot, a steady walk, or something in between.

Dog fitness is the piece of the wellness picture that's hardest to deliver consistently. That's what Milehound™ was built for: perfect conditions inside the van, every session, all year, with cushioned footing instead of hot pavement. Sessions run on standing weekly appointments, billed as a monthly membership. Every Milehound™ handler is trained in canine behavior and pet first aid, backed by a team that has spent their careers in pet care. Here’s how a session works.

How it works

The gym comes to the dog.

We pull up

The Milehound™ van parks at your curb on a standing weekly time. We greet your dog at the door. You're done.

Your dog finds their pace

Inside the air conditioned van, your dog moves on a professional dog treadmill at whatever speed feels right. Some trot hard. Some walk steady. Every session is fully supervised.

A tired, happy dog

Twenty-five minutes later: a genuinely exercised dog and a quieter evening at home. Owners notice behavioral regulation changes within 2 to 3 weeks of consistent sessions.

The science behind the stride

Why structured fitness matters for your dog.

Research from Purdue University's Canine Welfare Science Center confirms that regular physical fitness reduces a dog's stress response and is directly linked to reduced anxiety. Peer-reviewed studies on canine treadmill exercise show that structured locomotion develops cardiovascular and muscular endurance, provides behavioral stimulation, and supports healthy weight. Exercise triggers endorphin release and promotes nervous system regulation, which is why consistent movement leads to calmer, more balanced behavior at home.

Walks are wonderful. Training is valuable. Milehound™ is the complement: structured dog fitness that builds on everything your dog already gets.

Sound familiar?

Is your dog a Milehound?

Some dogs were born to run. You already know if yours is one of them.

Structured fitness triggers endorphin release and nervous system regulation. The calm, settled dog is the side effect.

The 9pm zoomies

Your dog hits the hallway sprint every night. That's not personality. That's a nervous system that didn't get what it needed today. Structured fitness rebuilds that regulation.

They want more

Your dog loves their walk. But some dogs have energy that a walk alone doesn't reach. Milehound™ is the supplement: structured movement that builds on everything your dog already gets.

The weather wins

Houston summers make outdoor fitness dangerous for months at a time. Your dog's need for consistent movement doesn't pause seasonally. Year-round fitness stability is what completes the routine.

Reactive on the leash

Your dog needs exercise but other dogs, bikes, or squirrels make walks stressful for everyone. A private, supervised session lets your dog move without those triggers, building confidence and endurance in a calm environment.

Your schedule doesn't match theirs

You work long days. Your dog doesn't care. They need their miles whether you're home at 5 or 8, and consistency matters more than one big weekend outing.

Slowing down, not stopping

Senior dogs still need movement, just gentler and more predictable. Low-impact treadmill work builds joint stability and maintains cardiovascular health at whatever pace your dog sets.

Fair questions

Things dog people ask.

What is a mobile dog gym?

A mobile dog gym is a van equipped with dog treadmills that travels to your home so your dog can exercise in a comfortable, air conditioned space. Milehound™'s version adds a trained handler who supervises every minute, self-paced treadmills where your dog sets the speed, and standing weekly appointments so exercise actually happens, whatever the weather is doing.

How much does Milehound™ cost?

Founding memberships start at $129 per month for one supervised session every week, locked for life (the regular rate will start at $149). Performance memberships with two or three sessions per week will also be available at founding rates. A $25 deposit holds a founding spot and applies as a credit toward your first month at launch.

Where does Milehound™ serve?

We're launching in Houston and building the route around the neighborhoods that sign up first. Join the waitlist with your zip code and you'll help shape where the van goes.

Will my dog actually run on a treadmill?

Dogs learn the equipment in three supervised sessions. Every new member starts with our First Mile intro package: three acclimation visits where your dog learns at their own pace. Self-paced means your dog sets the speed. There's no pressure, because there's no timer. If it's not their thing, we refund and part as friends.

Is it safe?

Yes. A trained handler is inside the van with your dog for the entire session. The treadmills are dog-specific and self-paced, meaning your dog sets the speed and can stop anytime. The van is climate controlled and monitored, equipment is sanitized between visits, and we carry insurance built for exactly this work.

What does a session look like?

Your dog moves at their own pace on a self-paced treadmill inside the van, with a handler's full attention the entire time. Some dogs trot hard the whole session. Some keep a steady walk. Either way, it happens in perfect weather, on cushioned footing, every time.

Can my dog do a longer session?

Treadmill minutes are continuous movement with no sniff stops, so 25 minutes covers more distance than a much longer leash walk, and we report the miles after every session so you can see it. For dogs who want more, twice a week beats one long session, which is exactly what our Performance membership is for (two or three sessions weekly). An Extra Miles add-on (15 more minutes, $15) is available on some routes, subject to availability.

What vaccinations are required?

A current rabies vaccination is required for every dog, with a copy on file before the first session. Equipment is sanitized between every visit.

How clean is the van?

Treadmills and the cabin are sanitized between every visit.

Which dogs is Milehound™ good for?

High-energy breeds that outpace their walks (retrievers, shepherds, doodles, pointers, huskies), dogs whose owners work long hours, reactive dogs who do better without a dog park, and seniors who benefit from gentle, consistent movement on our slower treadmill protocol with vet clearance.

What if my dog is a couch potato?

Even better. Couch potato dogs aren't lazy, they're under-stimulated. A dog that sleeps all day hasn't been given the opportunity to build endurance. The treadmill is self-paced, so a couch potato starts slow and builds from there. Owners see rhythm changes within the first three sessions. Consistent, gentle movement is just as valuable for the dog who won't get off the sofa as it is for the one who won't stop running circles around it.

How is fitness different from walks or daycare?

Fitness is its own pillar. Walks provide outdoor exposure and exploration. Socialization provides mental stimulation. Training teaches commands and behavior. Dog fitness is structured endurance work: it builds cardiovascular capacity and supports nervous system regulation. Your dog benefits from all four. Milehound™ provides the one that's hardest to deliver consistently.

Is a treadmill good for dogs?

Yes. Dog treadmills provide consistent, low-impact exercise that triggers endorphin release and supports nervous system regulation. The treadmill is self-paced, so your dog sets the speed and can stop anytime. Combined with a trained handler and controlled conditions, it's one of the safest and most effective ways to build dog fitness, especially in cities like Houston where outdoor heat limits exercise for much of the year.

Has Milehound™ launched yet?

Not yet. We are in our pre-launch phase, building the founding member list and preparing to hit the road this fall. Your deposit helps us get there faster. Fully refunded if we don't launch by November 1, or anytime before launch.

How do I find a mobile dog gym near me?

What does the deposit commit me to?
